Doctor who's future
It's apparently on the brink of cancellation, what's the likelihood, what I think and what happens next:
The “Newspaper” named the Sun recently ran a piece on their website reporting that Disney was thinking of cancelling Doctor Who after just two seasons of its “reboot”. Now no offence to its millions of readers but I believe the Sun Is the worst thing to happen to the British democracy in its lifetime and view its readers as Morons financing a random rich Aussie who wants to bend the world to his will.
So when I heard this story I threw it aside and ignored it. As the Sun (or Any red tops to be honest) has a history of making random BS Claims about Doctor Who over the last 20 years.
But then i thought about the possible scenario of Doctor Who being cancelled and if you look outside as we’re living in weird times it’s not as unlikely as you think.
But first, let’s look at why it may be cancelled by looking at season 1. I’ve only seen all the episodes once but from what I remember the good ones were episodes like Boom 73 Yards and Dot and Bubble the rest we’re either ok or bad (Sorry Devils Chord but they should never do an episode like that again, you had a musical episode with Murrey gold and you somehow messed it up!?)
And to hype up a mystery all season about Ruby’s Mother just for it to be a random woman who didn’t want a child is a bit of a rug pull for the audience. But from what i remember it wasn’t bad, and it was certainly better than the Chibnall era I can’t make an evaluation on Gatwa yet because he’s only been there for a season and I would be much more confident after a second or third season of him as the doctor.
From what I have been seeing from some people on Twitter (It’s still better than the Sun… for now) After some delays in the filming of season 3 the Doctor who PR came out saying that it was always the plan to evaluate the situation after season 2 and the reason why some journalists may have been talking is because Gatwa is apparently in high demand within Hollywood.1
What happens next?
And because of this cancellation/replacement talk, it’s meant that people have been speculating who could replace Gatwa as the doctor, Now I'd say someone who I wanted for years which is Horrible Histories/Ghosts/the Wrong Mans, actor Mathew Baynton but some people have said *Sigh* David Tennant...
Now don’t get me wrong, David Tennant is brilliant, as an actor, The Doctor and a human being (unless you ask Kemi Badenoch) I’d love it for him to become The Doctor again, but in my opinion it’s not good a good sign for the health of a TV show if at every single bad spot the series gets into they give the job back to a previous actor who is famous for playing that role. It would be like the makers of James Bond bringing back Pierce Brosnan to play the character again, to be it’s a bit too nostalgia baitey.
So, if I were Russell T Davies (Which I am not, but it is fun to imagine), if I wanted to bring back David Tennant, I would only do it if I planned to end the series with him and try to go out on a high. This is because the Sun report suggests to me that if it is going to be cancelled, it’s going to be cancelled like the classic series, where it just stops after seeing the doctor and Ace walking into the wilderness…
